Road Warriors Slip Past Stingrays 3-1

The South Carolina Stingrays (33-24-4-1) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (37-21-2-2) 3-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night. The loss snapped a four-game home winning streak for the Stingrays.

The Road Warriors kicked off the scoring 24 seconds into the game with a tally from forward Chris McKelvie beating Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (L, 24 saves on 26 shots) under the glove from the top of the right-wing circle. Forward Justin Bowers and defenseman Wes Cunningham added assists.  

Former Stingrays defenseman Jeff Caister made it 2-0 on the power play with nine seconds left in the second period. Defenseman Jyri Niemi and Bowers recorded assists.  

Defenseman Derek Keller put the Stingrays on the board with a power-play goal 15:25 of the final frame knocking a rebound past the glove of Road Warriors netminder Jason Missiaen (W, 18 saves on 19 shots). Forward Daniel Koger and defenseman Zach Tarkir picked up assists. Road Warriors forward Brandon Wong sealed the victory with an unassisted empty-net goal at 19:18. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 1-for-5.  

The Stingrays host the Road Warriors tomorrow, Saturday, March 10 for Faith and Fun Night at 5:00 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Comedian John Felts will perform after the game!
