Authorities investigate downtown house fire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The City of Charleston Fire Department was called out to a house fire early Saturday morning on 74 Drake Street.

According to fire department spokesman Mark Ruppel, the fire started outside in the backyard between the house and a 6-foot fence. The flames then crept towards the house causing it to erupt.

Five college students were living at the home and have been temporarily displaced.

Fire officials say it will take a day or two before they could know exactly how this fire was started.

No one was injured in this incident and it remains under investigation.
