St. Stephen man killed in early morning house fire

ST. STEPHEN, SC (WCSC) -

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office says a man was killed in a house fire early Sunday morning in St. Stephen.

Authorities say the fire happened at 4 a.m. on Heaven Drive. The coroner's office has identified the victim as 51-year-old William Gregory Googe of St. Stephen.

According to authorities another person was able escape the fire, but received serious burns and had to be flown to the Joseph Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga.

The Berkeley County Coroner's office says Googe was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be conducted on Monday to determine Googe cause of death.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
