WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – A Mt. Pleasant man was hospitalized Sunday after he collapsed during the Wrightsville Beach Marathon.
James Glasgow, 36, went down less than a quarter of a mile from the finish line at Mayfaire Town Center. New Hanover Medical Center had seven paramedics throughout the race course and was able to quickly help Glasgow.
On Monday, he was listed in critical condition.
The hospital released the following statement in regards to the incident:
[Glasgow's] father would like to thank the EMS Team at New Hanover Regional Medical Center - Matt Stevens, Drew Peterson, Tanya Atwood and Dr. David - who did a wonderful job on the scene and Dr. Payne, who continues to care for his son at NHRMC.
Event Director Tom Clifford was concerned about Glasgow when he collapsed.
"Of course my stomach kind of turns," said Clifford. "You never want that to happen to anyone, anywhere."
