ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a man at his home and then firing shots at a victim who was trying to get away.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested Steven Direll Johnson of Orangeburg on Wednesday and charged him with murder, attempted murder and weapon possession during a violent crime.
On Tuesday night, officers responded to a home on St. Matthews Road after a woman returned home to find her boyfriend lying on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman then left the house for fear of someone still being in the house and called authorities.
According to investigators, Johnson went into the residence and fatally shot the victim. Authorities say Johnson also fired shots at a second victim as he was trying to drive away.
"It is often hard to comprehend why the regard for human life is not as valuable to everyone," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said."A life is taken and we will identify the person or persons responsible and make arrests. We will fulfill our responsibility in each of these cases."
