GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown Police Department arrested three people accused of vandalizing the C. Spencer Guerry monument on Front Street last week.
The vandalism was caught on video from new surveillance cameras mounted in Georgetown. Police arrested 34-year-old Frank Jones, 26-year-old Rafael Villavisencio and 26-year-old Leonardo Fransico, all of Georgetown.
The three men were taken into custody early Friday morning and charged with malicious injury to property for allegedly vandalizing the memorial of a fallen police officer.
Two students. one from Georgetown High School and one from Horry Georgetown Technical College were returning from fishing and saw the three suspects walking on Front Street. The two students had seen the video and recognized the suspects and called law enforcement.
The two students then directed the responding units by cell phone to the suspects. Officers had to chase Fransico, who fled on foot, but he was quickly apprehended. He is also charged with hindering a police investigation.
The suspects have been booked into the Georgetown County Jail.
