Lockdown lifted at Charleston County jail

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Detention Center is no longer locked down after an internal power issue was repaired.

The lockdown went into effect just after 2 p.m. Friday and only lasted about 40 minutes.

Major Jim Brady said Charleston County deputies and North Charleston police were stationed on the outside perimeter of the Al Cannon Detention Center on Leeds Avenue as a precaution.

He says there were never any threats to the facility, inmates, or jail staff.
