COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - One of Colleton County's "Most Wanted" suspects turned himself into New York police on attempted murder charges on Sunday night.

Colleton County Sheriff George Malone said John Brown surrendered to the 47th Bronx Precinct of the New York Police Department. He fled South Carolina shortly after being charged in a March 2011 shooting at Wasson Lane near Walterboro.

Sheriff Malone said the Colleton County Sheriff's Office received a tip that Brown was hiding in New York or New Jersey shortly after media outlets published his photo.

Brown will be extradited back to South Carolina to face charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
