JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Several John's Island residents received reverse 911 calls Monday night asking them to stay indoors because of an incident on Whipporwill Lane.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says the incident involved a man who deputies thought may harm himself. Deputies were able to resolve the situation.

Authorities responded to a home on Whippoorwill Lane for a welfare check on a resident because of family concerns that the subject may attempt to harm himself. Negotiators responded to the scene in an attempt to make contact with the man.

The SWAT team stormed the house around 9:30 p.m. after deputies lost contact with the person inside. Once inside the home, deputies took one person into custody who was then taken by EMS to a local hospital for evaluation.

The reverse 911 went out to neighbors in the area as a precaution.
