Woman gets 50 years in SC dismemberment case

GREENVILLE, SC (AP) - A woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for her role in the dismemberment of another woman.

Carman Jenkins was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to murder.

Prosecutors dropped their pursuit of the death penalty against the 24-year-old woman last year after she led investigators to the body 34-year-old Mekole Harris.

Prosecutor Walt Wilkins is still pursuing the death penalty against Jenkins' husband, Clarence. Authorities say the pair killed and dismembered Harris in 2008 and used her body parts to try to extort money from another woman who was involved in a three-way relationship with the couple.

Police say there was no connection between Harris and the other woman. Clarence Jenkins is scheduled for trial April 9.
