Coast Guard cutter decommissioned after 45 years of service

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A big day for the Coast Guard cutter Dallas as the vessel was decommissioned after 45 years of service.

The ceremony took place Friday morning at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in North Charleston. The ship helped seize illegal drugs overseas.

"It's tough. It's especially tough for the crew, who's put so much sweat into getting her going. And as i mentioned, the last trip is always the hardest," Coast Guard Commander Rob Parker said.

The ship will be transferred to the Philippine Navy by the end of May.
