Governor's office says IRS letter proves no investigation going on

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The governor's office says a letter from the IRS proves the agency is not investigating Gov. Nikki Haley.

The letter, which was provided by the governor's office, says the IRS decided an examination of the Sikh religious society, which Haley's parents are members, wasn't warranted.

The letter was sent last fall and was in reference to the 2009 tax year.

In the last week, a blogger accused the governor of somehow being involved in an audit of the temple.

"As we said from the very beginning, there was not an ounce of truth to any of these accusations," said Rob Godfrey, Haley's spokesman. "They were totally contrived, totally false, and it is a tremendous shame that once again the good names of the governor and her family were dragged through the mud by a media all too eager to believe anonymous sources and unaccountable bloggers."
