MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - Singer and actress Ann-Margret is performing on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown for the first time in almost half a century.
Margret performs in a benefit concert Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on the carrier at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor. Tickets are $45 each for the event.
The last time she was on the ship, she performed in a 1966 USO concert with singer Johnny Rivers when the carrier was off Vietnam during the Vietnam War. At that time, when her plane circled the carrier to land, sailors gathered and spelled out a greeting on the flight deck.
Saturday's concert is scheduled to feature 1960s music and a silent auction benefiting the Patriots Point Institute of History and Science.
