Road planners hear public input to improve Johns Island highway

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The public is giving their thoughts to Charleston County road planners concerning a heavily traveled road on Johns Island.

Charleston County Roadwise is working on a project to improve Maybank Highway from Main Road to River Road. One option includes making the two-lane highway four lanes and adding a bike path and sidewalk.

Another option includes keeping it a two-lane road and adding a bike path and sidewalk with on-street parking in some areas.

Tuesday night's meeting started at 6 p.m. at Haut Gap Middle School on Bohicket Road.

Another public input meeting is scheduled for April 17 and will also be held at Haut Gap Middle from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
