Coroner identifies man killed after crashing pickup into woods

BONNEAU, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury has identified the man killed after driving his truck into the woods in Bonneau, troopers say.

Salisbury identified the victim as 48-year-old James Seay.  He died from head trauma.

The wreck happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday on Harristown Road., just off Highway 17A. South Carolina Highway Patrol says Seay lost control and drove into the woods, hitting several trees.

A passenger was thrown from the truck and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. State troopers say neither Seay nor the passenger were wearing seat belts.

Harristown Road was closed until about 5:30 a.m., but has since reopened.

Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
