CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Organizers with the Cooper River Bridge Run will meet on Thursday to identify the main problems surrounding the delay from the 35th annual event last weekend.
The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Pleasant at 1 p.m.
A letter of apology was sent to all runners on Wednesday after the event was delayed almost an hour.
The letter apologizes for "unprecedented problems" and states they "will be taking the necessary steps to help ensure this will never happen again."
Directors Ken Ayoub and Julian Smith stated they were working to confirm the details and facts surrounding the delayed start.
Runners grew increasingly annoyed last Saturday morning as they were held in the "corral" area for almost an hour before the race began.
Organizers said the delay was caused by untimely transport of runners to the start line, but Ayoub and Smith stated they are working to "determine exactly what happened."
