CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston County students can see a clip of "The Lion King" in class but can't watch all of Simba's adventures.
The county school district is reminding teachers of its movie policy after a Wando High teacher was dismissed for showing sexually suggestive clips from "Jackass 2."
Under the policy, the district must approve requests to show any portion of a film, and the clip must fit into the day's lesson plan. Showing entire movies is not allowed.
The district position is that teaching time is precious and shouldn't be taken up by showing entire movies.
Associate superintendent Terri Nichols says, while some teachers may grumble, there are just as many parents who want their kids being taught by a teacher, not watching a film.
