Hwy 17 North reopened after crews fix downed power line

AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - The intersection of Highway 17 North and Steed Creek Road in Awendaw is back to normal after Berkeley Electric Cooperative workers completed repairing a downed power line.

Officials with the power company say about 280 customers were affected by the power outage which occurred early Thursday morning.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office Major Jim Brady says the incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. when a tree fell on power lines causing the lines to sag, and then a van with a ladder rack came along and stretched the line even more, causing a traffic hazard.
