Summerville man pleads guilty to charges of abusing horses

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A Summerville man accused of abusing two horses was fined $5,462 on Thursday.

Dwight Benjamin McCloud pleaded guilty to five of seven charges which includes failure to provide care or humane treatment for a diseased or injured animal.

McCloud's two horses, Whisper and Traveler, were found starving and underweight on Feb. 29. Authorities say one of the horses had a large burn on his back, where his owner may have tried to treat rain rot with straight kerosene.

Musician Willie Nelson is adopting the horses, which will be moved to his Texas ranch sometime in June.
