Book keeper accused of stealing more than $240k from church

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have a arrested a woman accused of stealing nearly a quarter-of-a-million dollars from a church.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office charged 27-year-old Elizabeth Barnhill Brown with breach of trust with fraudulent intent of more than $10,000.

According to authorities, Brown stole $240,340 from the Herbert Methodist Church while she worked as a book keeper at the church.

An incident report states that between July 21, 2005 and November of 2011, Brown took money belonging to the church and used it for personal use.
