NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A former Oakland Raider and North Charleston football legend was honored on Friday.
North Charleston High School held a special ceremony recognizing Art Shell, who went to Bonds-Wilson High, as a Hometown Hall of Famer.
"To come back here to my roots where I came from, where this community helped make me the guy I am today, that means a lot," Shell said.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Allstate insurance company gave shell a plaque that will hang at the high school. Shell was an eight-time pro-bowl selection and won two Super Bowls.
He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
