Cops: Man leads police on chase after ramming ex-girlfriend's car

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities charged a man with attempted murder after investigators say he used his SUV to strike his girlfriend's car in Walterboro.

The Walterboro Public Safety Department charged Sylvester Scott Jr. with attempted murder, kidnapping, malicious injury to person and failure to stop for blue light and siren.

Officers responded to Sweat Street in reference to an altercation early Sunday morning. The victim told emergency personnel that her ex-boyfriend had blocked her car from leaving a home and then had used his SUV to hit her car.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found the suspect's Tahoe SUV and the victim's damaged white Pontiac.

According to investigators, as officers approached the Tahoe, the vehicle sped away. Officers say Scott refused to stop and eventually led officers back to the original scene where he began to scream at the victim.

Police say the suspect then took off again and led authorities on another chase through numerous streets. The suspect eventually came to a stop at the end of Grant Street after two of his tires became deflated from a spike strip officers had used earlier.

The suspect eventually came out of his vehicle and was arrested.

He was locked up at the Colleton County Detention Center.
