Man wakes up naked, missing vehicle after night with hitchhikers

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A 63-year-old James Island man woke up naked in an Orangeburg County motel room with his wallet and car missing after a night of drinking with two people he picked up on Interstate 95 last week.

According to a sheriff's department incident report, the victim said he picked up a middle-aged man and woman in her 60's who were hitchhiking on I-95 on Tuesday afternoon. He said he took the two back to his motel room on Five Chop Rd. to have some drinks.

The victim said he and the unknown hitchhikers had a lot to drink, which caused him to pass out.

He said he woke up the next morning and his pants were missing. He noticed that his keys and his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee were also missing. The man, who said he had never picked up hitchhikers before, said he wasn't sure if he had given his drinking partners permission to take his vehicle.

If you know where the man's silver Grand Cherokee with tag no. HCH 577 is, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
