'Free James Island' meeting for residents tonight

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The group pushing for incorporation for James Island, "Free James Island," will hold a meeting Thursday night to allow residents to ask questions and get more information about becoming a town again.

The meeting will be held at the Department of Natural Resources auditorium at the end of Fort Johnson Road from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Former Mayor Bill Woolsey will speak, as will State Rep. Peter McCoy and a few other elected officials.

Topics up for discussion include law enforcement services and various forms of tax.

A referendum is scheduled for April 24. If residents vote for incorporation, they will have a special municipal election on July 31.
