Bond set at $50k for man suspected of robbing drug dealer

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

Bond was set at $50,000 on Friday for a 21-year-old Johns Island man who police say robbed a drug dealer at a hotel in West Ashley.

The Charleston Police Department charged Damien Lee Rivers with armed robbery and kidnapping.

On April 3, police say Rivers and two men, entered the victim's room and demanded money. According to the victim, the suspects, one armed with a gun, searched his room and took $10,500 in cash.

Investigators say while processing the room for evidence, police found five grams of cocaine in a bag. The victim, 42-year-old Jackie Neal Bentley of Bel Air, Md. was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Police are continuing the investigation.
