Man arrested after traffic stop yields a pound of marijuana

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) -

A 39-year-old man was arrested after deputies say they found more than a pound of marijuana in his car following a traffic stop in Orangeburg.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office charged Phillip Scott of Bowman with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Officers say it all started when they saw a Ford Escape make two traffic violations. After a consent to search, deputies found 596 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said the passenger, Scott, made statements to officers that the narcotics were his.

"Our officers are taking narcotics off the streets through extensive investigations and while they are conducting traffic stops," Ravenell said."I am extremely proud of their efforts and how we are improving Orangeburg County."
