RIDGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The lockdown at the Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville is expected to be lifted on Monday after a weekend-long internal investigation.
Authorities say that the prison will be coming off the lockdown gradually and should be at normal operations shortly.
A special investigative unit is continuing to look into security-related issues. Corrections officials did not say exactly what prompted the lockdown but did say there was no riot.
Officials have arrested more than one person in 2012 after catching them trying to smuggle contraband to inmates.
The prison locked down back in January after two officers were hurt in a fight with inmates. During a lockdown, all 1,400 hundred inmates have to stay in their cells.
Tear gas was used to neutralize the threat, officials said.
