Man charged after stabbing outside downtown Irish pub

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a man from Puerto Rico early Sunday morning after he allegedly stabbed a Goose Creek man outside Molly Darcy's pub on East Bay Street.

Charleston Police Department officers responded to the pub located near The Market at 2 a.m. Sunday to find a 22-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to his abdomen.

The victim told officers he had just been stabbed. Almost 30 minutes later, police arrested 40-year-old Francis Xavier Montoya, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, at the corner of East Bay and Cumberland streets after he matched the description provided by witnesses.

Montoya was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center. He is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
