Officials: 'Earthy' water to remain for a month

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - If you've turned on your tap for a drink of water recently, you may have noticed an earthy, musty smell and taste.

Charleston Water Systems says it comes from spring algae, which is more noticeable this year because of a higher level of algae compounds and because the water is about 10 degrees warmer than usual.

It is not harmful, according to Charleston Water Systems. Officials expect it to last about a month, and in the meanwhile customers can use a carbon filter or refrigerate water in a pitcher to help minimize the taste and smell.
