Police: Child drowns in pond at Summerville neighborhood

Police say a child drowned after falling into a pond in a Summerville neighborhood Friday afternoon.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 2-year-old Sia Jarvis died at Trident hospital.

Summerville police officers say they responded to Breckingridge Drive and found the Summerville Fire Department performing CPR on the child. A witness on the scene told officers that she had called 911, and with the help of another woman was searching for the child.

Another neighbor, who was also searching, said she found the girl floating in shallow water in the pond. She says she then pulled the child from the water and began CPR until the fire department arrived.

EMS arrived and transported the girl to Trident hospital where she died. Neighbors told officers that they did not know how long the child had been missing for.
