WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Walterboro Public Safety officers charged a man and a teen after an armed robbery in the Hampton Inn parking lot on Sunday night.
Officers responded to 1835 Sniders Highway on just before midnight on Sunday after receiving reports of a hold up. Once on scene, the victim said he was grabbing something from his vehicle when a man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt pointed a gun to his forehead.
The victim said the man took his wallet and then ordered him to sit inside his vehicle before he ran off.
Shortly after officers arrived on scene, another officer reported seeing a vehicle that matched the description from a prior robbery at that Hampton Inn. During a traffic stop, officers found the victim's wallet inside the vehicle and a handgun 75 feet from the vehicle.
Police arrested both occupants in the vehicle, 26-year-old Joshua Markell Graham and 19-year-old Amber Michelle Wilson, and charged them with armed robbery, kidnapping, and pointing a firearm.
They are being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.
It was the second armed robbery at the Hampton Inn in five days.
Last Tuesday two people were robbed at gunpoint outside a room. No arrests have been made in that incident.
Business owners on Sniders Highway believe the hotels and motels are easy targets because they are close to Interstate 95.
"They could be gone in several different directions. There's plenty of back roads and stuff over the interstate, yeah, it's an easy getaway for them," said Maddy Nava, who works at a fireworks store on Sniders Highway.
"Police officers need to more often travel up and down, go to the property, make a round each time," said Ramesh Patel, who operates the Royal Palm Inn on the same highway.
