NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the North Charleston Police Department say they are continuing their investigation into what they are calling a "suspicious death" at a liquor store in North Charleston.
On Monday, the Charleston County Coroner's office said the body of 39-year-old Matthew Renken was found at the Port City Liquor store on Dorchester round around 8 a.m. on Monday.
The coroner said that Renken died of a gunshot wound. Authorities say when officers arrived at the store, the front door was locked. Officers then went to the rear of the store where they found the rear door standing open and a man standing behind a vehicle.
Police say the man flagged police over and said that he thought his stepson might be dead.
A police report states that one of the officers then entered the store and found Renken's body in an office with a black handgun laying on the floor next to him.
Police are continuing the investigation.
