RIDGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office lists parental neglect as one of the causes for the death of the 2-month-old boy who was mauled to death by the family dog.

On Monday, Coroner Chris Nisbet released his findings on the autopsy of Aiden Lee McGrew, of Sandpit Drive in Ridgeville. He lists the cause of death as exsanguination, due to transection of blood vessels, due to animal eating, due to parental neglect.

He lists the manner of death as homicide. Nisbet said that the baby was in a high chair when the child was attacked by the dog in the single wide trailer home.  However, during a frantic 911 call, McGrew's mother described the seat as a swing.

According to Nisbet, two adults, three children, two dogs and several chickens lived inside the home.

During a press conference Friday afternoon, Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight said that the infant was asleep near the father's room when he was attacked by the dog around 11 a.m. Friday. Authorities say the dog, a golden retriever-labrador mix, was recently rescued and new to the home.

"Today is one of the saddest days in my 20 plus years of being in the Dorchester County Coroner's Office as I report to all of you, one of the worst deaths I have ever handled," Nisbet said in a press release.

The Department of Social Services has taken custody of the couple's two other children.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says the dog that attacked the child and another family dog have been secured at the sheriff's office law enforcement center.

Authorities are continuing the investigation.
