DEWEES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Isle of Palms Fire Department crews will remain on Dewees Island over the next 24 hours as rubble continues to smolder following a massive fire which destroyed two homes and damaged several others.

Officials are still trying to determine what cause the blaze.

The fire started just before 10 p.m. Tuesday at one home and spread rapidly, burning down another and damaging several others.  One of the destroyed homes was under construction, and the other was being renovated.

No one was hurt.

Homeowners took to the fire with their garden hoses before emergency crews, who had to travel by boat, could arrive on scene.
