Crossing guard hit by truck in 'fair condition'

MUSC officials say the crossing guard struck by a truck driven by a 16-year-old girl last Wednesday is now listed in fair condition.

The 35-year-old crossing guard was listed in critical condition last week after troopers say she was hit by a Chevy pickup in front of Sangaree Elementary School.

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say they cited the 16-year-old pickup driver for disobeying the crossing guard she struck on Royle Road just before 8 a.m.

The teen is charged with disobeying a school guard directing traffic, an offense which calls for a $225 fine and a deduction of four points.
