Ridgeland man sentenced to 45 years for murder

RIDGELAND, SC (WCSC) - A Ridgeland man was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Wednesday for the 2009 murder of a man at a Jasper County nightclub.

Brett Howard, 23, was convicted of murder after a three-day trial. Howard shot and killed 54-year-old Woodrow Brantley at Missy's Place near Ridgeland on December 11, 2009.

Brantley was shooting pool with a friend at the club, when Howard misunderstood the conversation and pulled out a pistol, said witnesses. Howard attempted to fire the gun a number of times, and when it finally fired, he shot Brantley in the face.

The married father died at the scene.

Howard turned himself in the next day after being identified by multiple witnesses.
