Coast Guard rescues disabled boat off Charleston shore

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A sailing vessel floating 170-miles off the Charleston shore got some help from the Coast Guard Thursday morning after the boat became disabled.

Authorities say the sailing vessel Aletheia became inoperable while it was traveling from Marathon, Florida to Bermuda. The Coast Guard was contacted Tuesday by Aletheia's crew requesting to be towed in.

Rescue crews from the Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin were sent to provide help on Tuesday at 9:26 p.m.

The Yellowfin reached the Aletheia at 6:18 a.m. on Wednesday, and by 10:12 a.m. Thursday, had the boat successfully towed into Charleston.

No injuries were reported.
