BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a man wanted in Colleton County was arrested in Berkeley County on an unrelated charge.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office says Billy Ray Hinson, who was wanted for drug violations and failure to appear bench warrants, was arrested by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
Hinson was one of the original "Colleton County Sheriff's Office Top Ten Most Wanted" when the list was first released earlier this year.
Colleton investigators say that the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office assisted their office in apprehending Hinson after information was received from a citizen that Hinson had been seen in their county.
Hinson was locked up in Berkeley County and is expected to be brought back to Colleton County to face charges.
"The capture of Billy Ray Hinson represents a successful apprehension of all ten original 'Top Ten Most Wanted' thanks to information provided by our citizens," said Colleton County Sheriff George Malone."Without their assistance, this objective could not have been reached in such a short time. We would like to thank everyone who was part of this effort in bringing these fugitives to justice and making our county a safer place to live, work, visit and play."
"A new set of 'Top Ten' was sent out to the public by way of news and social media and several of those have also been apprehended," Malone said."Again, we cannot thank the public enough for their interest and participation in this effort and hope that the cooperation between Law Enforcement and the Public continues as the battle against crime wages on."
