CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - "National Bike to Work Day" has arrived and Lowcountry cyclists will be hitting the streets today.

Tom Bradford of Charleston Moves, a nonprofit which promotes healthy modes of transportation, hopes the event continues to grow in popularity.

"The more people we can get out doing a little bit of exercise, the better.  Listen, a huge number of we take a day are a mile or less and a huge portion of these are in a car."

"Think about it for a second, you have to go to the store for a loaf of bread, you fire up a V6 to go 8 blocks. You know you could have done it in the same amount of time on a bike and probably burned about 150 calories."

Bradford said participants should make sure and plan their route specifically before hitting the road today.
