Patrick Mace pitched a complete game with 7 strikeouts while McColl Furman and Nick Bell came up with big hits for Ashley Ridge as they defeated Byrnes 6-5 on Saturday afternoon in Summerville to force a game 3 in the AAAA baseball championship series.
The deciding game will take place Monday night at 7 p.m. at White Knoll High School.
Austin Livingston got the scoring going in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that scored Lorenzo Wright to put the Swamp Foxes up 1-0. Furman would come up later in the inning and drive in 2 more runs with a double to make it 3-0 after the first inning.
Byrnes would answer back with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd. But Ashley Ridge answered in the bottom of the inning with 2 more runs of their own thanks to a Nick Bell 2-run double. The Swamp Foxes never looked back.
"It's awesome obviously to be only 4 years old and going for a game 3 and a chance to win the state championship" said Head Coach BJ Bellush. "It's a tribute to our coaches and our kids and how hard they play. We came out swinging the bats tonight and Mace pitched another great game."
