Starting pitcher Caleb Cotham has been promoted to High-A Tampa, becoming the first Charleston RiverDog to be moved up by the New York Yankees in 2012. Left-hander Evan Rutckyj has joined the RiverDogs from Staten Island to replace Cotham on the roster and take his spot in the rotation.
A 6'3", 215 pound right-hander from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Cotham was 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA in eight starts for Charleston this year. He had allowed one or zero runs in five of his eight outings, and had 32 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched with only seven walks. Cotham was drafted by the Yankees organization in the 5th round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft out of Vanderbilt University.
