CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say two men who were arrested for beating and robbing a man leaving who was leaving work have been charged for another armed robbery.
Officials with the Charleston Police Department charged 25-year-old Anthony Donnell Brown and 43-year-old Jeffery Bernard Simmons with an armed robbery that happened on Beaufain Street on May 11.
The victim told officers that he was tackled to the ground, held down, punched in the face multiple times and his wallet taken.
Brown and Simmons were arrested on Friday the same day investigators say both men beat and robbed another man who was leaving work.
Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said the incident happened on Archdale Street around 10 p.m. when the victim had just left his job on Meeting Street, and was on his way to a friend's house on Pitt Street.
Francis said Brown and Simmons confronted the victim and punched him before taking his wallet and cell phone.
The victim then went to his friend's house and called police, who arrived on scene and began to search the area for suspects. Francis said one officer saw Brown and Simmons and began to interview them, but they ran off.
Police said the men threw the cell phone and wallet on the ground as they tried to get away. A police report states that both of the suspects were found a short time later near the corner of Meeting and Pinckney streets.
Both men were locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
