MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Police have charged a Mt. Pleasant man with domestic violence after he allegedly held his wife down and threatened to "snap her neck" at their home early Tuesday morning.
Mount Pleasant Police Department officers arrested 54-year-old James Michael Dolan after responding to a home in the 3000 block of Linksland Road, located off Highway 17 North in the Charleston National development.
According to the incident report, the victim said she was trying to go to bed when her husband tried to "hug and cuddle with her." The victim said she told him no and then left the bedroom to go to a spare bedroom to get away from him.
The victim said Dolan followed her into the spare bedroom where the room was dark, and then began hold her hands. The victim said she thought she felt Dolan was holding some type of rope, but then he placed what she thougt was black electrical tape over her mouth.
When the victim told him to stop, she said he replied, "Be Quiet, shut up, I can snap your neck." The victim said she was then able to get away from Dolan before telling her son to watch Dolan while she left.
The victim then arrived at the police department and reported the incident. She said her husband was recently released from MUSC after a mental evaulation, and added that Dolan had been on a new medication which was making him act "strange."
When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the couple's sons, one of whom said he heard his mother yelling before she walked out of the house.
Dolan was located in the bathroom, and was taken into custody after SWAT arrived on scene. Following his arrest, police also seized 20 guns from the home, including pistols, shotguns, and an assault rifle.
Dolan is charged with first degree criminal domestic violence. He was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
