NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department cited a driver for contributing to a collision after he left his van unattended which was then struck by a semi on the Don Holt bridge Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the driver pulled his van onto the truck lane after getting a flat tire.

Police say a tractor trailer then struck the rear of the vehicle. Authorities say no one was inside the van during the crash.

The driver and passenger of the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

Police had to close all of the westbound lanes headed into North Charleston during peak traffic hours on Tuesday.  The incident also caused delays in the eastbound lanes headed to Daniel Island and Mt. Pleasant.

As a result, many motorists opted to take I-26 to the Ravenel Bridge, prompting delays there as well.
