
Junior
third-baseman Richie Shaffer (Charlotte, NC) was named one of 30 semifinalists
for the Golden Spikes Award, announced by USA Baseball on May 29. The
award goes to the nation's top amateur baseball player.
Shaffer is hitting .339 with 10 homers, 19 doubles, two triples, 46 RBIs, 58
walks, a .479 on-base percentage, and eight steals. He either leads or is
tied for the team lead in batting average, hits, doubles, homers, slugging
percentage, walks, and on-base percentage.
Beginning today, fans will also be able to vote
on the 2012 GSA by visiting GoldenSpikesAward.com and selecting their favorite
amateur player.
