School board members halt first reading of the budget

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County school board members are now waiting until June to vote on the first reading of the 2013 budget.

The school board was expected to vote on the first reading of the budget Tuesday, but board members say they didn't have enough time to go over all the information in the budget packet before the Memorial Day Holiday and they don't want to rush through the multi-million dollar budget.

The board is going over an expected 6.9% increase in general operation costs and that includes teachers salaries.

The first reading will now take place on June 11 and the second reading will be on June 18 in order to stay on schedule for budget approval.
