National Get Outdoors Day to be held June 9

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Fort Sumter National Monument is encouraging people to 'Get Outdoors' on June 9.

National Get Outdoors Day will be held at Liberty Square in downtown Charleston from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. GO Day is an outgrowth of Get Outdoors USA!, which encourages all Americans to live a healthy and active lifestyle by enjoying parks, forests, refuges and other parks.

At this year's event, which is hosted by Fort Sumter, there will be information centers and activities set up for kids to enjoy. National Park Trust mascot Buddy the Bison and US Forest Service mascot Smokey Bear will also be on hand.

The event is free to the public.
