It seemed like a long time coming to motorists, but the two inner lanes of the Crosstown reopened on Thursday morning.
The lanes had been closed for months as road crews added tree-lined medians to the Septima Clark Parkway as part of phase one of a four-phase project to beautify and improve the drainage system along the road.
The first phase, expected to be completed in November also includes adding new sidewalks and lighting. Road crews will still work along the Crosstown, but it will not interfere with traffic.
In December, the second phase will begin. Crews will add more underground piping along side streets to help with the flooding issues.
