Santee Cooper reaches agreement with Alcoa to save 600 jobs

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A new deal helped save 600 jobs in our area. Santee Cooper says it's reached an agreement with Alcoa that extends past the upcoming June 30 deadline.

The deal comes in the middle of a power rate dispute between the aluminum maker and the electric company.

Santee Cooper says they'll continue negotiations for a long-term contract.

The June deadline was for Alcoa to tell Santee Cooper whether its Berkeley County plant will continue operating past 2015.
