Nonprofit donates traffic-data system to police department

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation made a $3,500 donation to the North Charleston Police Department on Monday, to help with some much-needed equipment.

The funds will help the department conduct traffic studies in areas where there are safety concerns with the use of a new "stealth stat system" which produces traffic data.

With the new system, officers will be able to record vehicle speeds at different hours of the day to determine which areas are in need of more enforcement.

Without this donation, NCPD would not have had the funds to buy the system.

Since 2005, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated more than $250,000 towards public safety in South Carolina.

The nonprofit foundation provides funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first aid responders.
